The Jurong Bird Park is one of Singapore’s big animal park which, as its name indicates, specialised in birds coming from all over the world.
It is a big park, where leisurely visits easily take a whole day, with its thousands of birds in various aviaries. For the birder, whilst it might not have the thrill of hunting birds in their natural habitat, it is a great training ground to test and perfect photographic technique and to generally learn birds’ behaviour as many of them are kept in aviaries rather than individual cages thus allowing them to behave nearly as they would in the wild (except for food of course).
Beyond being an attraction park, part of Singapore toolset to attract tourists, the Jurong Bird Park is heavily involved in conservation programs, such as breeding of the Bali Myna, as well as in education and nature awareness.
I’ve spent many days shooting in this park and it has been one of the few places where I’ve brought my daughter to hone her photographic skills.
